Trip info
- Question: When do we need to be off of the river?
- Answer: You must be off the river no later than 6:30pm unless it was stated to you otherwise by a TKT member. There is a $5 fee for every 15 minutes that you are late. If sunset arrives and you are still out, TKT may consider it an emergency and call for assistance.
- Question: What’s the average depth of the river?
- Answer: Avg depth is 4ft from its start at indian lake to the Ohio River.However there are dozens of holes that are 25+ft.
- Question: Are there any rapids? What “class” are they?
- Answer: Yes, there are spots with rapids during the 5 mile river trip. The rapids are classified as Class I, which is the smallest class out of a 5 class scale. They are great rapids for beginners and still fun for the river veterans.
- Question: Do you provide life jackets?
- Answer: Yes, life jackets are issued to all persons and are included in the rental fee for your boat. Our life jackets are also sanitized after each use and hung up to dry.
- Question: Who has to wear life jackets?
- Answer: Children ages 11 and under and non-swimmers MUST wear their life jackets by Ohio Law. Everyone must have a life jacket in the boat with them, which is also state law. We recommend everyone to wear their life jacket at all times..
- Question: How often do the vehicles transport customers?
- Answer: Our vehicles will run continuously. However, the LAST shuttle vehicle for the 5 mile trip leaves at 2:00
Rental equipment and pricing questions
- Question: What are your prices?
- Answer: It’s $35 per person single sit on top kayak and 2 and 3 person canoes, add $15 for a third person age 12 and older add $10 for 7-11.. We have cooler carriers for that you can rent for $10
Weight limits
- Question: What are the weight limits of your boats?
- A: All weight limits are approximate.
- Single Kayaks - 300lbs
- Tandem Kayaks - 500lbs
- 2 person Canoes - 600lbs
- 3 person Canoes - 700lbs
Please do not put us in the position to tell you that you’re too big for our equipment.
Cancel/refunds
- Question: When will you know if you are open based on weather and water conditions?
- Answer: I will post on FB and website sometime between 6 and 7 am the day we are scheduled to be open.
- Question: What are the conditions for canceling a trip?
- Answer: High water above 6000CFS and thunderstorms. (not if it is calling for rain or raining) If water temperature and air temperature combined are below 120 degrees.
- Question: Will we receive a refund if we are open and you cancel the day of?
- Answer: NO if we are open and you cancel the day of you will not receive a refund. If we are closed due to the above mentioned cancellations, then you will receive 100% refund
Daily operations/hours
- Question: What days are you open?
- Answer: We are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM last trip leaves at 2:30 PM you must be off the river by 6:30 PM.
- Question: are you open on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day?
- Answer: Yes we are and we open at 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM and last trip leaves at 2:30 PM you must be off the river by 6:30 PM
- Question: are you allowed to bring coolers?
- Answer: Yes and we do rent cooler carriers for $10 if it does not fit on the kayak.
Reservations
- Question: do we have to schedule ahead of time if we want to kayak or can we just show up and pay there like we would normally do?
- Answer: If you want to guareetee you have a kayak, Tandam Kayak, or canoe It is best to make a reservation. walkups are welcome but please call and check for avaiability. You must sign the waiver either way whether when you book online or walk up.
Personal Belongings
- Question: What do we do with our personal belongings such as cell phone, car keys?
- Answer: We do not have lockers, please lock your valuables in a hidden, concealed spot in your car or leave your precious personal items at home for extra safety. We advise not taking anything on the river that you can’t afford to lose or get wet. For your convenience, we have a variety of dry boxes and dry bags available for sale at an affordable price. (TKT is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced items). We will place your keys in a key box for safety. To date 55 phones and 27 sets of keys have been lost. A locksmith charges anywhere between $100 and $200 and a tow can be expensive as well.
Livery/shuttle service
- Question: Can I bring my own equipment and use your shuttle bus service or use TKT property
- Answer: yes, the fee is $25 Kayak Tandem kayak or Canoe
Facility’s
- Question:Do you have a clean-up area or changing rooms?
- Answer: No, not at this time
Wildlife
- Question: Is there much wildlife along the GMR?
- Answer: Most definitely!! Arriving in the mornings will increase your chances for enjoying a peaceful, quiet day on the river. Keep in mind that weekends and holidays may be less peaceful due to the higher volume of customers. Expect to possibly see American Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Osprey, Hawks, Kingfisher, Cliff Swallows, and Beaver, maybe an otter or muskrats, deer among much more.
