Staying Proactive
Tippecanoe and Kayaks Too (TKT) is taking the necessary actions to help prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus. We will monitor coronavirus developments on a daily basis for updates from local, state, and federal public health agencies. TKT is taking guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Rental Equipment Restrictions:
- We encourage you to purchase your rental tickets online and complete the waiver. This will control the flow and limit contact between the customer and staff.
Building Restrictions:
- Upon approach of the check-in building, customers will enter the building that is clearly marked with social distancing marks on the ground. Large signs will be seen as reminders of practicing social distancing. Our staff will be required to practice safe social distancing and wear masks where appropriate. We do ask that customers wear masks while in the open air building.
- Customers will be limited to a maximum of 4 at any given time in our 1,000 square foot open-air building. The floor will be clearly marked as to where they will be permitted to stand. There will be a “sneeze” barrier along the counter to protect our staff. Customers will be asked to show their signed waiver then proceed to place their waiver in a box. Each customer shall receive a sterile pen for signing. Pens are sterilized between uses. Staff will be checking the ID and receipt of the customer while looking through the sneeze guard. It will not be necessary for our employee and customer to have physical contact with one another. They will easily be able to practice social distancing.
Vehicle Restrictions:
- The passenger vans will be limited to 35% capacity at all times. We transport our guests on 15 person rated passenger vans at 35% capacity. There will be limited seating, multiple seats will not be available to passengers. The driver has a sneeze barrier between them and the customers. Seating will be staggered and in an every-other seating arrangement.
- Windows will remain open during transport to create air flow ventilation.
- For the health and safety of passengers and our operators, passengers are to stay behind the white line. If there is a question passengers are to speak loud enough that the operator can hear them while remaining behind the line. Instructions will have been given to the passengers prior to their boarding of the vehicles.
- Drivers and passengers will be required to wear a face covering or mask while in transit. This will be reminded to passengers during the pre-loading briefing/safety talk. We do not supply masks. Please bring your own face covering.
- The transport ride to the launch-site takes less than 5 minutes. It is only 1 mile in length.
- Upon exiting the river, customers will be asked to put face masks back on for the ride back to livery which is less than 10 minutes
Specifically, here is what TKT is additionally doing:
- In addition to our daily rigorous cleaning of our vehicles, we will be applying a sanitizing disinfectant that kills the coronavirus to all surfaces inside vehicles, on kayak surfaces, paddles & around the facility. This disinfectant is effective at killing the coronavirus. Restroom facilities will be cleaned often throughout the day.
- Life Jackets will be washed with an EPA certified cleanser that is effective in the killing of the COVID-19 virus. The lifejackets will be thoroughly dried prior to reuse.
- TKT will be providing hand cleansing availability to customers and staff. Hand sanitizer will be available at all high-traffic locations.
- Staff and customers will be required to practice social distancing in all workplaces.
- Social distancing will be reminded to customers by signs at the livery’s parking lot, check-in,vehicle boarding and launch site. Practicing social distancing is also stated on the website. It is also reminded during pre-boarding of the vehicles.
